Solvent degreasing (or solvent cleaning) is the physical process of using organic solvents to remove grease, oils, fats, wax or soil from various metal, glass, or plastic items. Solvent selection is based on the solubility of the substance to be removed and on the toxicity, flammability, flash point, evaporation rate, boiling point, cost, and several other properties of the solvent.

White spirit is the most widely used hydrocarbon solvent for degreasing / cleaning. It is provides good solvency with controlled evaporation. According classification there are few types of white spirit specifications:  type 1, type 2, type 3 and type 0. The most popular grade for global white spirits market 2016 is Type 1 with Medium Flash Grade. The white spirit obtained by cut kerosene faction through distillation system. Depending on the specific technology conditions there are several stages of production that reduce toxicity of the final product. Before distillation from kerosene should remove mercaptanwith alkaline oxidative treating, colors and aromatic compounds (concentration may be up to 20%). Using additional departmentof extractive distillation it is possible to remove aromatic content from white spirit to level less than 1%. White spirit should not contain water-soluble alkalis, acids, solids and water.

White spirit widely used for dry cleaning; paint thinner cleaning; spot removal; wax remover and degreaser. Of course before using the material safety data sheets (MSDS) should be specified.

Low Aromatic White Spirit has successful application in Paint & Coatings Industry

There is not clear formula of white spirit, because it is not a pure chemical substance. It is a mixture of linear hydrocarbons and aromatic structure. White spirit gets by distillation process at temperature range from 140 to 220 C degrees. White spirit manufacturing accordance with the requirements of country production standard, specific of raw materials (kerosene) and technology, approved in the established manufacturing order.

Usually is guaranteed shelf life of solvent about three years from date of manufacturing. White spirit packing in steel 160 kg drums on the wooden pallets or ISO tanks and should be label marked image of the danger, classification code class 3.

ODORLESS WHITE SPIRIT IN INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION

Classical low aromatic white spirit can contain in its composition to 17% aromatic hydrocarbons. But now there is technology that give opportunities to produce odorless White Spirit (aromatic content less than 1 %) - it is artificially purified from aromatic hydrocarbons by extractive distillation. The international chemical company has own line of dearomatized hydrocarbon fluids (odorless white spirit/ odorless mineral spirit). For example Shell Chemicals (ShellSol) and ExxonMobil Chemical (Exxsol) with grade level D40, D60, D80. Odorless white spirit hydrocarbon solvent gives its low level of impurities such as sulphur, olefins, benzene and total aromatics, and low odor. Diluents for premium quality low odor coatings formulations.

White spirit gets factional of kerosene and is used mainly as a solvent in the paint industry. It is used as a solvent of some rubbers, fatty alkyds of epoxy, often used in the production and reception of diluted oil-based varnishes. Although the effectiveness of the use of this product is somewhat reduced, but the partial replacement of the conventional white spirit or their use in paint materials greatly increases the sanitary - hygienic properties of the coatings.
